Mushroom Storage Containers

Rings come off at the sink. Guitar picks disappear into the couch. Loose drills end up in whatever lid was closest at the time. Small things need somewhere to live, and an open dish does not count, because an open dish tips.

Each of these is a sculpted mushroom with a softly domed, stipple-textured cap on a slender fluted stem, and the cap twists off on a smooth screw thread to open a compartment inside. Closed, they are quiet little forest sculptures on a shelf. Open, they are where the rings, the picks, the spare keys, the wrapped candies and a few dried petals go. The matte PLA catches light like unglazed stoneware rather than plastic, and the fine ribbing down the stem gives it a hand-turned look from a foot away.

The screw thread is the part that earns its keep. A lid that threads shut stays shut when the shelf gets bumped, which is the whole difference between storage and a dish with things balanced in it.

Treat them as decorative storage rather than food containers: keep anything edible in its wrapper, wipe clean with a damp cloth only, and keep them away from heat and open flame. Texture, seam line and color depth vary piece to piece.
